Common Questions
Can’t find your question? Send it with your project details and we reply within one business day.
What's the difference between an estimate and a written quote?
An estimate is a ballpark figure based on general project details. A written quote is specific to your space – it follows an in-home or photo-based assessment and lays out exact scope and pricing before any work begins.
Do you assess my project in person or can I send photos?
Either works. Many projects can be scoped from clear photos and measurements, though we'll recommend an in-home visit when a job has more complexity – like waterproofing repairs or an unusual layout – that's easier to judge in person.
Is my quote locked in once I receive it, or can pricing change?
Your written quote reflects the scope we discussed. If something changes once work is underway – a different material choice, or an issue found once old tile or subfloor is opened up – we'll walk you through any adjustment before proceeding, not after.
What happens on the first day of a tiling project?
We confirm the scope with you, protect surrounding surfaces and fixtures, and begin any tear-out, substrate prep, or waterproofing the project calls for before tile ever goes down.
Do you clean up the work site at the end of each day?
Yes. We keep the work area contained and tidy up debris and material at the end of each work day, especially for projects where the room needs to stay usable overnight.
Can I stay in my home while the work is being done?
In most cases, yes. A single bathroom or kitchen project generally doesn't require you to leave the home, though a shower or bathroom under renovation will be out of use until the work and any required curing time are complete.
What if I'm not satisfied with the finished tile work?
Walk the finished space with us before we consider the job done. If something doesn't meet what was quoted and agreed, tell us and we'll address it directly rather than considering the project closed.
Do I need to be home for the on-site assessment?
It helps if someone who knows the space can walk through it with us, but we can also work from photos, measurements, and a phone or video call if being there in person isn't possible.
How far outside Ottawa will you travel for a project?
We serve Ottawa and the surrounding region, including communities like Kanata, Barrhaven, Orleans, Rockland, and Cumberland. If you're not sure whether your address is in range, just ask.
Can you match a start date to my renovation's overall timeline?
We'll do our best to fit into a broader renovation schedule, especially on new-construction or multi-trade projects, but the exact start date depends on our current workload and your project's readiness – we'll give you a realistic window once we've assessed the work.
How much does tile installation cost in Ottawa?
Our installed rates are $10 – $18 per square foot for floor tile, $15 – $30 for bathrooms and showers, $20 – $40 for kitchen backsplashes, $14 – $26 for large-format tile and $15 – $30 for natural stone. Old tile removal adds $3 – $6 per square foot and subfloor repair $2 – $6. The cost calculator gives a range for your size.
Do I need a permit for tile work in Ottawa?
Like-for-like retiling does not need a City of Ottawa building permit as long as no plumbing, electrical or walls are moved. A heated floor is different: the electrical work has to be reported to the Electrical Safety Authority, and hired work must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.
Is my floor flat enough for large tile?
For tile with any edge 15 inches or longer, the floor can be out of flat by no more than 1/8 inch over 10 feet and 1/16 inch over 2 feet. We check this during the assessment and include any levelling in the written quote.
Why does some tile sound hollow when you tap it?
Hollow tile has gaps in the mortar underneath. Tile standards call for at least 80% mortar contact in dry areas and 95% in wet areas and outdoors. Hollow tile is likely to crack, so we reset it rather than fill around it.
Do you offer a warranty?
Any workmanship warranty is set out in your written quote, job by job, so you know what is covered before work starts.
